Our goal to build the first Solid State LiDar Chip in Taiwan!

There are two hot topics about LiDAR. One is a bombing news by Elon Musk from Tesla. In the sprawling ages of autonomous cars, AI controls the operation of cars, leading the AI boom in the market. However, there are two differences in the data of AI calculations. One is the dominant Tesla. Elon Musk has always been a proponent of stereo photography lenses, and believes that the lens is the only solution for self-driving cars. However, from the previous resolute opposition to LiDAR, Musk decided to embrace LiDAR instead.

LiDAR will lead the trend of 3D imaging. To this end, a LiDAR sensor has been added to the iPhone 12 Pro lens. Because of LiDAR, not only can you take a flat “photo”, but also sense the surrounding 3D stereo environment, turn the distance and depth of the objects in the picture into data, and quickly model the image to make the image three-dimensional, making it 360 Look around and use it.

Advantages

In the application of self-driving cars, although the camera can clearly identify the size and color of the object, it is easily affected by light and weather. Although the radar can still operate normally at night, there are still many restrictions on the material. Simultaneously install a speed measuring radar or a communication antenna, the electromagnetic waves emitted by them are likely to cause misjudgments by the ranging radar;

In the opposite, because the laser light emitted by it has a shorter wavelength and more concentrated energy, it has a better resolution, can measure the distance with higher precision, identify the shape of an object, and can measure up to about 200 meters in depth. Distance, and can achieve centimeter-level measurement accuracy. In addition, because it is not affected by ambient light and brightness, it can sense the shape and distance of surrounding obstacles day and night, and create a 3D geographic information model around it.

In the future, self-driving cars require multiple sensors such as camera, radar, and LiDAR to complement each other. In the current development of self-driving, sensors such as millimeter wave radar, ultrasonic radar, and lens have indeed been widely used on car bodies. What are the advantages of LiDAR, and why has it become the top priority of the current self-driving car development?

LiDAR, known as the "eyes of self-driving cars", has become an important key to the success of the development of self-driving cars. It lies in

  1. LiDAR can detect day and night, and its performance is not interfered by external electromagnetic waves;
  2. 360-degree layered scanning (64 layers) can depict the contours of objects around the vehicle, which is conducive to object recognition and classification;
  3. Due to the principle of optical reflection, the characteristics of the road surface can be scanned, in addition to maintaining the driving path of the vehicle, it is also useful for vehicle positioning (with electronic map data required)
  4. Optical laser ranging accuracy is high, and the measurement error is at the centimeter level;
  5. The full-circle scanning radius is up to 100 meters, which is enough to provide processing time for vehicle dynamic judgment when the vehicle speed is increasing

Our Goal

Traditional Lidarin adopts mechanical rotation. Through the 360-degree rotating transmitter head, the faster and more accurate laser beam is changed from line to surface, and multiple laser beams are arranged in the vertical direction to form multiple surfaces. The purpose of dynamic 3D scanning and dynamic reception of messages, but both optical systems and mechanical rotation systems are expensive. In the early days, at least seven. Fifty thousand dollars, and the volume is huge, can only be installed on the roof of the car.

  1. Solid-state LiDAR and hybrid solid-state LiDAR are technologies with great development potential. We specialize in Optical Phased Array (OPA)
  2. The light phase matrix is used to change the angle of the laser light to realize the wide-angle scanning function. Because there is no need to use rotating and moving components, the volume can be greatly reduced and the price can be reduced.
  3. The development framework of SOC also makes efficiency faster and smaller

Our Value

The IC design team is composed of a team of masters and doctors located in Silicon Valley and Taiwan. All have at least 15 years of design experience.
